NorthfieldWiFi was born right here in Historic Northfield Minnesota. The company was started in October 2006. Between October 2006 and February 2007 we were performing rigorous tests on our network to ensure that we were ready to start offering our services to the public. After ensuring everything was ready for launch, we opened the doors for business.
How NorthfieldWiFi's Wireless Broadband Works?
NorthfieldWiFi's High Speed Wireless Broadband connection is sent to your home over the air. Once at the home, we mount an access point somewhere outside the premise. That access point picks up the NorthfieldWiFi signal, translates it, and sends it down into the home directly into your computer or wireless router. Our speeds and latencies are as fast as fiber, with out the fiber price tag.
The reason we need the equipment outside the home is that the NorthfieldWiFi signal is a proprietary signal, which means no one can see it with ordinary wireless cards. Once the signal reaches the home, it comes to your computer or wireless router on a Cat5 cable.
We don't like comparing the NorthfieldWiFi installation process with that of a satellite TV installation, but it is similar. The only difference is, our equipment is much less intrusive to the home and often can go un-noticed.
